"But our God is in the heavens;
He does whatever He pleases."
Psalm 115:3

 Psalm 115 presents to the people of God a contrast between their sovereign God and the gods the pagans were worshiping. Again, to get the whole picture, I suggest you read the whole chapter.

The pagans were challenging the God of Israel; they were insulting God, and, why not? They could not SEE Him; they took pride in what they could see (the idols they worshiped) and had contempt for the God of Israel whom they could not see.

Let me quote to you the first three verses,  “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth. Why should the nations say, 'Where, now, is their God?'  But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases."

You may have been challenged like that before: Where is your God?  Why did He not heal so and so, or answer such and such prayer?

The pagans in today’s verse were saying just that, “Where is your God?” The Psalmist is asking God to defend Himself, not for them but for HIS own sake, for the honor of HIS name.

The Psalmist wanted God’s name to be glorified. He goes on to tell God about the idols and how worthless they are. When you and I reflect on the goodness of our God, we bow down before Him and worship Him and Him alone.

The Psalmist remembers ….. He remembers the greatness of God. He remembers that God is sovereign. He remembers that God can do whatever He pleases, and the Psalmist writes from verse 8 on for the people to trust in the Lord, whether He answers or not.

God can do whatever He pleases, and will not be challenged by pagans or Fidel Castro or by anyone that demands that He, the creator of everything, prove Himself. How silly. Time and time again throughout the history of mankind, God has shown Himself to be the true God.

If you remember, at the time of Jesus’ crucifixion some people asked God to show Himself strong: "If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross and then we will believe."

Then some said, "Why doesn’t God send His angels to help Him?" Excuse me, but I don’t think that My God will negotiate with unbelievers. Sorry.

I have written before that God has done all He is going to do, so far as revealing Himself in the flesh through Jesus Christ, His Son. He granted us wonderful promises and brought them to fruition in the person of Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit then went to work, and, by the hand of man, wrote it all down for us (the Bible).

Believers, let me assure you of one thing:  God STILL answers prayer, and reveals Himself and speaks to His children.

All the things that He did in the Old and New Testaments, He still does today, but He does not have to "show" Himself, if He does not want to. Our God is in the heavens, and from there He can do WHATEVER He pleases.”

Thank you, Father, for revealing yourself to us; in the name of Jesus, your Son, I pray. Amen.

Have a great day.

I love you all, Daniel
